Long time favourites of the Get Around Glasgow team, The State Broadcasters are playing their first gig in over a year tonight in Glasgow. As part of this years West End Festival and to celebrate the launch of their new single “Trespassers” on Olive Grove Records, the Broadcasters are playing at the Captain’s Rest on Great Western Road. Along with them will be Randolph’s Leap and Jo Mango both well worth seeing.
Back in March we told you about the State Broadcasters teaming up with the Bafta award winning Jessica Ashman and their attempts to finance a video for the State Broadcasters next single “Trespassers”. The video is still in the production stage but the single is now available to download and has already been heavily featured on 6 Music and Radio Scotland.
You can download the song for free here: Trespassers
With their next album in the can and being readied for release, we’re looking forward to hearing some new songs during the set tonight but after being away for so long, we hope to hear some old material too! That and some of the “legendary” on stage chat that has marked the band out as one of those bands that are quite funny as well as being musically talented. It’s not a massive niche but the Broadies rank highly in the group.
If you aren’t going tonight or if you are and you just can’t get enough of the group, the band will also be playing at The Insider festival this Saturday. The group have an afternoon slot and will be sharing a bill with acts such as The Phantom Band, Little Kicks, Three Blind Wolves and the fantastically named The Bevvy Sisters. We’re not sure if it’s the same Bevvy Sisters that we knew from a few years back but if it is, you’re all in for a treat*.
*Disclaimer – the above story is a lie…still, great name for a band.
There are also rumours that The State Broadcasters will be appearing in Edinburgh before the end of the month. We would of course like to remind you about the health pandemic that Edinburgh is suffering at the moment, all of the citizens are really annoying, and if you intend to go to that gig, please remember your inoculations as well as your passport!
Right, we’ve offended our East coast chums suitably enough for one day…if you’re free tonight, head along to the Captain’s Rest or at least check out the new sounds from the Broadies!
